If you’re an adult without children there is no reason you can’t get everything you need for a short trip into a carry-on. There’s only one simple trick to remember: everything needs to go together. That is, every shirt you pack must be able to be worn with all the bottoms and the sweater/cardigan/jacket. Pack your favourite and most comfortable items and bonus points to things that don’t stain easily (ahem, dark denim and black). Pack PJs that can double as lounge clothes. No rigorous adventures nor the need for athletic clothes and shoes this time (which leaves just enough room for a shopping trip to Target).
So, here’s what I’m packing for my sojourn.
tops: all from The Gap and all in black: flutter sleeve tee – sleeveless eyelet top – softspun knit muscle tee – eyelet lace tank. I’d love to wear other colours but I am not confident in white, anything in the red/pink/peach/blush family brings out the redness in my face, and, let’s be super honest, I sweat a lot and never have to worry about it in black. Obviously all 4 tops match easily with jeans and will work with any cardigan.
cardigan/jacket: the days are warm but the nights will inevitably cool off, I haven’t chosen a cardigan yet, but how cute is this satin bomber jacket? I’ll likely settle on a cardigan because it’s easy to fold into my bag and carry all day.
dress: The Gap wrap belt midi dress. Ok, so when you’re 5’2″ this is NOT a midi dress, but it isn’t a maxi either. It’s cut higher at the sides which makes it very flattering for shorties who can get overwhelmed by monotone maxi dresses.
jeans: Old Navy mid-rise super skinny ankle (27″ inseam, perfect for short ladies)
shoes: Reebok C85 sneakers – TOMS chambray dot classics (old) – TOMS Playa sandals (old). Since sister is suffering from back spasms, I may just bring the TOMS classics and sandals as I feel we won’t be walking quickly or for very long distances.
PJs: the Gillian & O’Malley sets from Target are my absolute favourite. The material is so soft and comfortable.
